Salomon Wins Back Draw at Bucknell Invitational
Lewisburg, Pa.—(September 18, 2011) After dropping his first match on Friday, Mike Salomon finished strong to win Flight A singles back draw.
Salomon lost his first match on Friday to Bucknell's Kelly Morque, 6-2, 6-4. He faced Keyan Sanai from Loyola to start off the day Saturday, and defeated him in straight sets, 6-3. 6-3. He would go on from there to run through the back draw, defeating St. Francis Pa's Andres Rosa, and Loyola's Connor Lisco in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2; and 6-2, 6-0 respectively.
Sophomore Justin Olexa also competed in the invitational, competing in Flight B singles. He dropped his first match Friday as well to Scott Bernstein of Bucknell, 6-4, 6-2. From there he lost his back draw match on Saturday that dropped him into the consolation bracket of the back draw. Olexa defeated Eric Michaelis of Loyola 6-3, 6-4, to capture the title in the consolation bracket of the back draw.
The duo paired up to compete in Flight A doubles bracket. The pair won their opening two matches on Friday 8-4, then 9-7 against teams from Bucknell and St. Francis Pa respectively. On Saturday the tandem fell to the duo of Gregg Cohenca and Evan Zimmer from Bucknell, 8-0.
The Mount men return to action this Tuesday, September 20, when they host Shepherd at 3:00 p.m.
