Sophomore Matthew Blake (Garnet Valley, Pa./Salesianum [Del.]) and freshman Mike Zabetakis (Finksburg, Md./Calvert Hall) were named the Northeast Conference men's tennis Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Blake posted a pair of wins for the Mount at No. 1 singles this past week to move to 7-2 on the season in singles play. The sophomore downed Elahn Pogue of Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-1, 6-2, in the Mount's 5-2 loss to the Red Flash on Saturday. He came back on Sunday to earn a 6-4, 6-2 win over Rider's Rollie Malfitano in a 7-0 Mountaineer victory. Blake improved his career singles record at the Mount to an impressive 24-5.
Zabetakis won both of his matches at the No. 3 spot in the Mount's lineup this week. The freshman topped Steve Kowalski of Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-4, 6-2, in the Mount's 5-2 loss on Saturday. He followed with an easy straight-set win (6-0, 6-1) over Rider's Drew Laverty on Sunday.
The Mount has completed its fall season.
