Emmitsburg, Md. (October 19, 2008)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's tennis teams each lost to Delaware State on Sunday afternoon at the Mount St. Mary's Tennis Courts.
The women's team fell to the Hornets, 5-2, to fall to 3-2 on the season. Chelsea Johnson (Downingtown, Pa./21st Century Cyber School) earned a 6-4, 6-0 win over Yaioslava Balakhonov at the No. 1 singles spot for the Mount. With the win, Johnson improves to 8-3 this year in singles action and 49-18 in her career at the Mount. Emily Bolchoz (Tequesta, Fla./Kolbe Academy) was a 6-3, 6-2 winnver over Anna Koutun at No. 2 singles. Bolchoz is now 8-2 in singles this year and 32-10 for her career.
On the men's side, the Mount also fell by a score of 5-2. In singles action, junior Thad Mostowtt (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Milos Velicilovic. Mostowtt is now 4-1 on the season in singles play and 28-21 for his career at the Mount. Younger brother Jastin Mostowtt (San Diego, Calif./Cathedral Catholic), a freshman, earned his first collegiate singles win with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Michael Sienhida at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, the Mount's top tandem of Andrew Marinucci (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Patrick Plastow (Dushore, Pa./Pennsylvania Home School) teamed for an 8-4 win, but the Mount dropped the other two matches in doubes as Delaware State earned the doubles point.
