Baltimore, Md. (December 1, 2017) -- The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's swimming & diving teams closed out day one of the H2ounds Invitational hosted by Loyola University on Friday night.
Will Twizell posted the top finish of the night for the men, claiming second place in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.89. In the 500 free, Nicholas Starvaggi was the Mount's top finisher in 4:53.64 to take 16th place. John Mata registered a 17th-place showing in the 50 free in 22.45.
In relay action, the squad of Mata, Twizell, Thomas deXavier and Brock Cudahy placed sixth in the 400 medley with a time of 3:29.47. In the 800 free relay, Ethan Pham, Ryan Carroll, John Wilson and Twizell clocked in at 7:19.08 to earn eighth place.
On the women's side, Maddie McGraw notched the team's top finish on day one with a ninth-place showing in the 200 IM in 2:13.78. Mary Lombardi swam to a 13th-place finish in the 500 free (5:14.27) and Maggie deTar registered 16th place in the 50 free (25.83) to highlight the Mountaineers' other top finishes.
The relay squad of McGraw, Allysa Felos, Juliet Whitman and deTar touched the wall in 3:59.90 in the 400 medley relay to take fifth place. In the final event of the night, the 800 free relay, Juliette Lacoste, Bridget Vaughan, Whitman and JeMoon Won placed seventh with a time of 8:15.28.
The final day of the invitational begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow (Dec. 2).
