EMMITSBURG, Md. – Sacred Heart defeated Mount St. Mary's 3-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday.
Mark Plaisance (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) scored off a Dillon Johnson (Northport, N.Y./Northport) assist in the second half for the Mount (4-12-0, 2-7-0 NEC) while Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made two saves in the loss.
Marcello Castro scored a pair of goals for the Pioneers and Justin Brewer also found the twine while Tucker Hackett turned away two shots in the winning effort.
Mount St. Mary's tied the game early in the second half only to see Sacred Heart score the final two goals to earn its sixth-straight win in the series.
After Plaisance tied the game at 50:58, the standstill was short lived after Brewer found the twine off a Ronaldo Viera assist 62 seconds later to give the Pioneers the lead for good. Castro then sealed the victory with his second goal of the match at 61:21 for the 3-1 victory.
Castro got the scoring started with an unassisted at 12:16 to give Sacred Heart a 1-0 edge.
Plaisance knotted the game with his fourth goal of the season off a pass from Johnson, the current NEC Rookie of the Week, at 50:58. The Pioneers then found the twine twice in the next 83 seconds to come away with the victory.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday at Saint Francis (Pa.) in the final game of the season. Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
