HAMDEN,. Conn. – Quinnipiac downed Mount St. Mary's 3-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Sunday.
Erik Panzer, Machel Baker and Phillip Suprise each found the twine for the Bobcats (6-5-2, 4-1-1 NEC) while Borja Angoitia made six saves in the winning effort.
Quinnipiac scored three times in a span of 24 minutes midway through the match and never looked back to earn the victory.
Panzer got the scoring started when he found the twine off a pass from Sam Nichol at 34:17 for the only tally in the first half.
Baker then increased the lead to two goals early in the second half off a feed from Stevenson Hawkey at 49:49 before Surprise sealed the win with a tally off a Simon Hinde assist at 57:30.
Dennis had two shots in the 38th and 80th minutes stopped by the Quinnipiac netminder and Paul Curlings (Shady Side, Md./Louisa County) also had a pair of chances in the 43rd and 88th minutes turned away. Dom de Aragao (Houston, Texas/Klein) in the third minute and Mark Plaisance (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) in the 64th minute also had shots thwarted by Angoitia . Mike Molloy (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) also had a good scoring threat in the match when he hit the cross bar in the 76th minute.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday at home against Robert Morris. Game time is 7 p.m.
