NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Central Connecticut State defeated Mount St. Mary's 4-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday night.
Jesse Menzies paced the Blue Devils (5-6-2, 4-1-1 NEC) with two goals and an assist while Reece Wilson tallied a goal and an assist and Freddy Metellus also found the twine. Anthony Occhialini made three saves in the winning effort.
Central Connecticut State jumped out to the advantage and never looked back to end a three-game losing streak against Mount St. Mary's.
The Blue Devils grabbed the lead when Metellus found the twine off a Wilson assist at 32:15 for a 1-0 edge. Menzies then gave Central Connecticut State a 2-0 lead going into halftime after converting a penalty kick at 47:41.
The Mountaineers got on the scoreboard for the only time on the night thanks to an Ockford PK tally at 50:47 to trim the margin to 2-1.
Menzies had a hand in the final two goals to seal the victory. He set up Wilson at 67:33 and then found the back of the net unassisted at 73:48 for a 4-1 victory.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday at Quinnipiac. Match time is 1 p.m.
