Fairleigh Dickinson Upends Men's Soccer, 2-1
EMMITSBURG, Md. – Fairleigh Dickinson scored twice in the second half to rally for a 2-1 victory against Mount St. Mary's in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Sunday.
Godfred Baafi and Nicholas Walker both scored for the Knights (5-4-1, 2-0-1 NEC) while Jacob Lissek turned away three shots in the winning effort.
Mount St. Mary's jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal late in the first half only to see Fairleigh Dickinson scored twice in the first eight minutes of the second half to come away with the victory.
With the Mount clinging to a 1-0 lead at halftime, Baafi found the back of the twine off a Jan Aubert assist at 46:35 to knot the game at 1. Jack McVey then had a nice corner kick serve that found the head of Walker to give the Knights the 2-1 lead at 52:05
Matthew Steele (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) nearly tied the game a few minutes later when he had a one-on-one with the goalkeeper after beating a Fairleigh Dickinson defender, but Lissek made a nice diving save to preserve the victory.
Mount St. Mary's got on the scoreboard with 1:17 left in the first half. Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) served in a corner kick and a Knights defender deflected it out, but Jagger was there to boot in the tally for his first career score and hand the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead.
