BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn defeated Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Sunday.
Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made one save for the Mount (2-7-0, 0-2-0 NEC) while Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) and Jimmy Ockford (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a team-high four shots in the loss.
Jovane Langley scored the lone goal of the afternoon on a redirect header with Brian Alumbaugh and Ron Schroback being credited with assists on the score at the 73:58 mark. Nathan Stockie made six saves for the Blackbirds (2-7-0, 1-1-0 NEC) in the winning effort.
Mount St. Mary's had a couple of chances in the game, but could not convert. Daniel Gill (Richmond, Va./Bendictine) and Dennis had a pair of shots turned away in the first half in a span of 30 seconds in the 30th minute. Matthew Steele (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) had his scoring chance turned away in the 36th minute. In the second half, Ockford had shots saved by Stockie in the 52nd and 81st minutes before Dillon Johnson (Northport, N.Y./Northport) gave the Mountaineers their final chance, but his shot was stopped by Stockie in the 85th minute to preserve the shutout.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Friday at Waldron Family Stadium against Bryant. Game time for the Mount's NEC home opener is 4 p.m.
