EMMITSBURG, Md. – Lafayette defeated Mount St. Mary's 2-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday.
Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made three saves for the Mount (1-5-0) while Dillon Johnson (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven) each had a team-high three shots in the loss.
Blake Fink scored off an Alec Golini assist in the second half for the Leopards (2-4-1) while Nathan McDonald had three saves in the winning effort.
Lafayette jumped out to the lead and never looked back to win its second straight against Mount St. Mary's in a series that started last season.
The Leopards got on the scoreboard in the first half on an own goal at the 37:26 mark for a 1-0 lead. Fink then sealed the win with a tally six-yards out off a feed from Golini at 56:48.
The Mountaineers had 11 shots in the game, but could not convert. The squad's best chances to score came with the game tied. Dennis had the advantage on the Leopards' defense, but his shot tipped off the cross bar in the eighth minute. Jimmy Ockford (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a great header in the 36th minute, but McDonald made a diving save to keep the match at a scoreless standstill. Dennis gave the Mount its final scoring chance, but missed wide in the 83rd minute.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Tuesday at Howard. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
