Plaisance First Career Tally Carries Men's Soccer To 1-0 Win Against VMI

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Mark Plaisance (Montgomery Village, Md./Gaithersburg) scored his first collegiate goal to lift Mount St. Mary's past VMI 1-0 in non-conference men's soccer action on Friday night.

The Keydets (0-2) took the ball away from the Mount (1-1) in the corner, but while trying to clear the ball Plaisance intercepted it and smashed a shot to give the Mountaineers the lead for good. The sophomore did not register a point in his freshman campaign, but has recorded a goal and an assist in his first two games in 2012.

Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made three saves for Mount St. Mary's after making stops in the 13th, 40th and 51st minutes. The Mount defense only allowed three shots on the night.

Daniel Kitchen and Alex Guerra each made one save in 45 minutes of action for VMI.

The Mount has now one three-straight against the Keydets after winning the season openers against VMI in 2008 and 2009.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday in its first road game of the season at La Salle. Game time is 1 p.m.
