EMMITSBURG, Md. – Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), a member of the Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team, has been named the adidas/Northeast Conference (NEC) Co-Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 11-16. It is the fourth time this season the freshman has been named the NEC Rookie of the Week.
Dennis scored a goal in the Mount's 3-1 win against Bryant on Sunday. With the Mountaineers leading 1-0, the freshman found the twine off an assist from fellow freshman Matthew Steele (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) at 28:33 to post the eventual game-winning goal.
Dennis leads the NEC in points (21), points per game (1.75), goals (10), goals per game (0.83) and game-winners (5) while ranking seventh in shots per game (2.33) and eighth in shots (28). The freshman has scored in six of the 12 games he has played and posted four of the squad's six game-winners this season. The freshman has helped Mount St. Mary's lead the circuit as a team in goals (21), assists (23) and points (65).
Dennis was also named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the weeks of Aug, 29-Sept. 4, Sept. 19-25 and Oct. 3-10. He was named the NEC Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 19-25.
Dennis is the first Mount player in program history to garner four NEC Rookie of the Week awards in a season and just the third player in the NEC dating back to the 1997 season. Senior Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) won three top rookie weekly honors in 2008 on his way to being named the NEC Rookie of the Year.
Mount St. Mary's (6-6-1, 3-3-0 NEC) returns to action at home against Quinnipiac on Sunday. Match time is 3 p.m.
