Dennis Nabs His Third NEC Rookie Of The Week Honor

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Zoncher Dennis (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), a member of the Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team, has been named the adidas/Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 3-10. It is the third time this season the freshman has been named the NEC Rookie of the Week this season.

Dennis posted a pair of goals in a 3-2 win against Long Island on Sunday. The freshman broke a 1-all standstill when he found the twine off an assist from senior Ian Hendrie (Potomac, Md./St. Andrews Episcopal School) at 38:37. Dennis then sealed the win with his second tally of the afternoon off a pass from Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) at 86:49 for what proved to be the decisive goal.

Dennis leads the NEC in points (19), points per game (1.90), goals (9) and goals per game (0.90) while ranking sixth in shots per game (2.50) and seventh in shots (25). The freshman has scored in five of the 10 games he has played and posted four of the squad's five game-winners this season.

Dennis was also named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the weeks of Aug, 29-Sept. 4 and Sept. 26-Oct. 2. He was also named the NEC Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2.

Dennis becomes the second Mount player in program history to earn three NEC Rookie of the Week awards in a season and the first since Wheeler in 2008. The freshman also becomes the 12th player dating back to the 1997 season to earn the top rookie nod three times by the league in a season.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action at Sacred Heart on Friday night. Match time is 7 p.m.
