Men's Lacrosse Falls to Bucknell, 16-6
Lewisburg, Pa. (April 5, 2014)--Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse lost at Bucknell, 16-6, in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. Christian Durham paced the Mount with a pair of goals in the loss.
The Bison, however, rattled off the next seven goals to take a 7-1 lead at the half. Sean Doyle and Todd Heritage each had two goals for the Bison during the run. Bucknell scored three times in a span of just over two minutes to take a 3-1 lead midway through the first quarter, and held a 5-1 lead after one quarter of play.
Mount St. Mary's struck first in the second half on Kyle McDonough's third goal of the year off a pass from Bubba Johnson. Doyle and Kyle Shanahan countered for Bucknell before Durham scored his first goal of the game on an extra-man opportunity for the Mount to make it 9-3 with 8:31 left in the third quarter.
Bucknell scored five unanswered goals to stretch the advantage to 14-3 early in the fourth quarter before Durham's second goal of the game stopped the run. Brent Tsang and Ryan Lamon also scored fourth-quarter goals for the Mount.
Bucknell outshot the Mount, 44-23, in the game while holding a 39-24 advantage in ground balls. The Mount also committed 18 turnovers in the game while Bucknell had just seven miscues.
Frankie McCarthy started in goal for the Mount, making 10 saves while allowing 12 goals in the first three quarters. Chris Klaiber played the fourth quarter for the Mountaineers, making three saves with four goals allowed.
Durham's two goals paced the Mount offense while Johnson had a season-high three assists in the game. Shanahan finished with four goals for Bucknell while Shanahan added three.
The Mount returns to action on Saturday, April 12, with a 1:00 p.m. game at Bryant.
