Andrew Scalley and Bryant Schmidt Named First Team All-NEC

May 3, 2012—Andrew Scalley (Arnold, Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Bryant Schmidt (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) were named First Team All-Northeast Conference, announced Thursday night.  In addition, Brett Schmidt (Great Mills, Md./St. Mary's Ryken) and Kevin Downs (San Rafael, Calif./St. Ignatius Prep) earned Second Team All-NEC honors with Kyle O'Brien (Arnold, Md./St. Mary's) garnering a spot on the All-Rookie Team.

A midfielder, Bryant Schmidt is on the First Team All-NEC squad for the third consecutive season.  He leads the Mountaineers with 28 goals this season and is third on the team with 34 points.  The senior has a team-best six hat tricks this season and leads twin brother Brett by two goals in the team goal scoring race.  He has scored 18 goals over the past six games, including three in the 16-7 win over Wagner on Saturday.  Schmidt is now 25th all-time at the Mount with 68 career goals and needs one point to become the 24th player in school history to reach 100 career points.

Scalley, who is on the First Team for the second consecutive season at attack, is tied for the team lead with 44 points (23 goals, 21 assists) this year.  He has picked up his offense of late, averaging 4.43 points over the past seven games, tallying 16 goals and 15 assists over that stretch.  He has recorded at least one point in 44 of 45 career games played and he is 13th all-time at the Mount in career points (145) and goals (93).

Brett Schmidt earned All-NEC honors for the third time in his career with his Second Team nod at the attack position.  Schmidt has scored at least one goal in each of his past 26 games, the third longest streak in the country.  He is second on the team with 26 goals and is tied with Scalley for the top spot with 44 points.  Schmidt has recorded six or more points in a game three times this year, including a three-goal, three-assist performance in the 16-7 win at Wagner this past Saturday.  He was named First Team All-NEC in 2011 and Second Team All-Conference in 2010.

Downs earns Second Team All-NEC honors at the defense position.  An NEC All-Rookie selection last year, he has been a steady performer for the Mount defense all season.  He has appeared in all 13 games, notching seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

O'Brien earns a spot in the NEC All-Rookie team after appearing in 12 games for the Mount defense this season.  He has tallied five caused turnovers and 12 ground balls for the Mount this season.

The Mount, the defending NEC champions, will play top-seeded Robert Morris tomorrow in the NEC semifinals.  Face-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa.
