MORGANTON, N.C. - Sophomore Ryan Triller (Street, Md./North Harford) finished sixth to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a 14th-place standing at the Donald Ross Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Triller posted a one-over score of 71 in the first round and a three-over score of 73 in the second round before notching a career-best two-under 68 to finish the three-round event in sixth place with a score of 212, four strokes behind the medalist.
Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) (59th place, 228), Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (62nd place, 229), Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (82nd place, 238) and Eric Flockhart (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Francis Xavier) (89th place, 244) rounded out the Mount's five competitors.
In a highly competitive field, Lynn won the two-day three-round event with a score of 854, one stroke ahead of James Madison (855) while Wofford (860), High Point (867) and Elon (874) rounded out the Top-5 teams. The Mountaineers finished 14th after carding a 303, 299 and 302 in the three rounds for a total of 904. All five competitors shot in the 70s in the second round and four of the five Mount St. Mary's participants posted a 78 or better in the final round.
Teams played the first round and between five to 14 holes in the second round on Monday before play were halted due to darkness. Teams concluded the second round along with the final round on Tuesday. The Mountaineers played 31 holes on Monday and 23 holes on Tuesday.
The Mount concludes the fall slate at the Wendy's Kiawah Island Intercollegiate starting on Oct. 26.
