O'Grady's Five-Under Round Powers Men's Golf To Seventh Place At Towson Fireline Invitational
GRASONVILLE, Md. – Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) fired a 67 in the second round to move into fourth place and help the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team jump into eighth place the Towson Fireline Invitational on Saturday.
O'Grady posted five birdies on the day and recorded one bogey on his way to a round of five under score of 67. It marks the best round since Sage Smith shot a 68 in the second round of the ECAC Championships on Oct. 2, 2010. It is the second time this season the sophomore posted a round under 70 after registering a 69 in the second round of the Rehoboth Beach Invitational on Sept. 26, 2011. After carding a 75 in the first round, O'Grady is two under for the tournament with a score of 142 in fourth place and three strokes behind the current leader.
The Mountaineers posted a 288 in the second round after having all five competitors' record a round of four over or lower to register its best team round since a 289 in the third round of the Maryland Intercollegiate on Sept. 13, 2011. The squad has a two-round total of 593 to sit in seventh place and 15 strokes behind Seton Hall.
Ryan Triller (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) (36th place, 142), Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (58th place, 152), Danny Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) (75th place, 153) and Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais De Barcelone) (75th place, 153) rounded out the Mount's competitors. Aizpun moved up 25 spots are finishing with a par round of 72.
Seton Hall leads the three-day event with a score of 578, four strokes ahead of Navy (582) and Northern Colorado (582) while Penn State (587) and Harford (587) round out the Top-5 teams in the 22-team field.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action in the final round of the Towson Fireline Invitational on Sunday.
