Men's Golf Finishes Sixth At Lonnie Barton Invitational

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished 15th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Lonnie Barton Invitational on Tuesday.

Michalek shot a 78 in the first round and a 77 in the second round to finish the two-day tournament with a 155, 11 strokes behind the medalist.

Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (20th place, 157), Tonny Aizpun (Barcelona, Spain/Lycee Francais de Barcelone) (28th place, 160), Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (28th place, 160) and Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (54th place, 173) rounded out the Mount's five competitors. Aizpun, who came to the Mount in the spring semester, made his collegiate debut in the event.

High Point won the event with a score of 597, three strokes ahead of Sacred Heart (600) while Robert Morris (619), Drexel (625) and Fairfield (627) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the nine-team field. The Mountaineers finished sixth after shooting a 321 in the first round and a 311 in the second round.

The Mount returns to action on Friday at the Seminole Intercollegiate hosted by Florida State.
