HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) and and Andrew Lawton (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished fifth to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a third-place standing at the Holiday Inn Colonials Classic on Tuesday.
Michalek paced the Mount team players with a 78 in the first round and a 74 in the second round to record a 152 in the two days and finish in fifth place, 11 strokes behind the medalist. Lawton competed as an individual and also placed fifth after registering a 75 in the first round and a 77 in the final round to shoot a 152 in the event.
Jake Wetzel (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) also had a good event as an individual, finishing one stroke behind Michalek and Lawton in eighth place after carding a 153.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (17th place, 160), Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (18th place, 161), Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (26th place, 165)and Sage Smith (Denver, Colo./Brophy) (29th place, 166) rounded out the Mountaineers team players. Freshman Ryan Lee (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) joined Lawton and Wetzel as individuals in the event, finishing 34th with a score of 171 in his collegiate debut.
Robert Morris won its own invitational with a score of 598 while Clarion (605), the Mount (633), Toronto (634), Laval (642), Robert Morris "Blue" (653) and UMES (681) rounded out the seven-team field.
The Holiday Inn Colonials Classic concluded the men's golf team's fall slate.
