FARMVILLE, Va. - Dan Michalek (Mount Airy, Md./Mount St. Joseph) finished 12th to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a fifth-place standing at the Longwood Manor Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
Michalek posted all three rounds in the 70s, recording a three over (75) in the first round, two over (74) in the second round and a five over (77) in the final round to finish with a three-round score of 226 and in 12th place, 12 strokes behind the medalist. It marks the second-straight event the junior has been the Mount's top golfer.
Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (21st place, 233), Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) (24th place, 233) Ray Hyre (Bowie, Md./Bowie) (30th place, 240) and Jake Wetzel (Blue Ridge Summit, Pa./Waynesboro Area) (43rd place, 264) rounded out the Mount's competitors.
Longwood won its own three-round event with a score of 875, 29 strokes ahead of High Point (904) while Loyola (907), Hamden-Sydney (925) and the Mount (934) rounded out the Top-5 teams. Mount St. Mary's posted a 308 in the first round, a 299 in the second round and a 327 in the final round for a total of 934.
The Mount returns to action at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational on Sept. 27. The event is a one-day 36-hole invitational.
