Men's Golf Heads To Longwood Manor Intercollegiate On Monday

opening tee... The Mount heads to Farmville, Va., on Monday, September 13-14 for their next appearance in the invitational. The team will tee off for 36 holes of play on Monday, followed by 18 on Tuesday. This will mark the Mount's fourth-straight appearance at the Longwood Manor Intercollegiate.

last time at this event...Dan Michalek finished 31st to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a seventh-place standing at the Longwood/Manor Intercollegiate last season. Coming into the final round, Michalek posted a 153 in the first two rounds on Monday. The sophomore shot an 81 in the final round to post a 234 three-round total and finish in 31st place, 21 strokes behind the medalist. Brad Gerick (36th place, 235), Nick Tornetta (39th place, 236) and Sage Smith (50th place, 241) also competed for the Mount.

last time out...Dan Michalek finished 32nd to lead the Mount St. Mary's men's golf team to a 13th-place standing at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate on Monday. The event was the squad's first event of the season. Michalek posted a 78, 74 on Sunday and then carded an 81 in the final round to finish in 32nd place with a score of 233, 18 strokes behind the medalist. Kevin Ellison (57th place, 240), Devin O'Grady (64th place, 245), Ray Hyre (65th place, 246) and Andrew Lawton (71st place, 248) and rounded out the Mount's five competitors. Ellison and O'Grady made their collegiate debut in the event.

next on tap...The Mount men's golf team will next travel to Rehoboth Beach, Del., to participate in the 36-hole Rehoboth Beach Fall Invitational on Monday, Sept. 27.

nec statements... In five out of the last six years, the Mount has posted a Top-11 finisher in the NEC Championships. Andrew Hill accomplished the feat in 2004-05, Jordan Bertoglio did it in 2005-06 and Kevin Farrell earned the recognition in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Farrell became the fifth Mount golfer to repeat All-NEC honors. The Mount has had 13 players earn All-NEC recognition in program history and 18 times a player received the nod. In 2009-10, senior Brad Gerick earned All-Tournament honors after finishing in ninth place.

new to the mountain...Freshmen Kevin Ellison (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Ryan Lee (Leonia, N.J./Leonia), and Devin O'Grady (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) join the squad for the 2010-2011 season.

about the coach: Kevin Farrell enters his second season as the men's golf coach at Mount St. Mary's. Farrell served as an assistant coach in 2008-2009 and also helped out at the Quail Valley Golf Course. The 2008 graduate at the Mount, earned All-NEC honors in 2007 and 2008 after finishing eighth at the NEC.
