Men's Golf Tees Off Season At Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate On Sunday

opening tee... The Mount St. Mary's men's golf team heads to Verona, N.Y., for their first appearance in the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate. The squad, led by four upperclassmen, will begin tournament play on Sunday with 36 holes, followed by 18 holes on Monday.

next on tap...The Mount men's golf team will next travel to Farmville, Va., to participate in Longwood's Manor Intercollegiate at The Manor Resort on September 13-14.

nec statements... In five out of the last six years, the Mount has posted a Top-11 finisher in the NEC Championships. Andrew Hill accomplished the feat in 2004-05, Jordan Bertoglio did it in 2005-06 and Kevin Farrell earned the recognition in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Farrell became the fifth Mount golfer to repeat All-NEC honors. The Mount has had 13 players earn All-NEC recognition in program history and 18 times a player received the nod. In 2009-10, senior Brad Gerick earned All-Tournament honors after finishing in ninth place.

new to the mountain...Freshman Kevin Ellison joins the team in 2010-11, from Harrisburg, Pa., and graduated from Bishop McDevitt.

about the coach: Kevin Farrell enters his second season as the men's golf coach at Mount St. Mary's. Farrell served as an assistant coach in 2008-2009 and also helped out at the Quail Valley Golf Course. The 2008 graduate at the Mount, earned All-NEC honors in 2007 and 2008 after finishing eighth at the NEC Championships in each tournament.
