Emmitsburg, Md. (November 4, 2017)--Junior Robinson (Mebane, N.C.) poured in 38 points to lead Mount St. Mary's to a 93-78 exhibition victory over Hood at Knott Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Mount made 17 three-pointers in the win, and led by as much as 32 points in the first half.
With the score tied at six early in the contest, the Mount went on a 38-to-6 run for a commanding 44-12 lead with just over nine minutes left in the opening half. Greg Alexander (Hampton, Va.) started the run with a three-pointer followed by a traditional three-point basket. Omar Habwe (Lexington, Va.) and Donald Carey (Upper Marlboro, Md.) then connected on three-pointers to make it 21-to-7. Leading 21-9, Habwe, Carey, and Robinson each hit three-pointers to stretch the lead to 18 points. After a three-point play by Hood's Daniel Wegener, Ace Stallings (Miami, Fla.) converted in the lane, then Alexander and Robinson each hit a pair of three-pointers to cap the run to make it 44-12.
Mount St. Mary's shot a sizzling 15-of-23 (.652) from beyond the arc in the first half, and took a 59-34 lead to the locker room. Robinson scored 26 of his game-high 38 points in the opening 20 minutes, converting 8-of-10 from beyond the arc. Alexander chipped in 12 points off the bench in the half as well for the Mount, which saw 23 of their 31 first-half shots coming from three-point range.
The Mountaineers held a 74-53 lead with 9:14 remaining after a Carey three-pointer, but Hood hung tough, whittling the Mount lead to 87-78 with 1:27 on the clock. The Mountaineers were able to seal the win by hitting 6-of-6 at the line over the final minute of the contest.
Robinson, who scored a game-high 27 points in the Mount's 84-82 overtime exhibition win over Delaware on Wednesday, finished the game with 38 points and four assists. He averaged 32.5 points in the Mount's two exhibition victories this week. Alexander closed with 16 points and six rebounds while freshman Carey chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Kobe Butler paced Hood with 20 points while Anthony Pearson added 19 points, three assists and three steals.
The Mount shot 57.4 percent (31-of-54) from the field in the win, including 17-of-31 (.548) from three-point range. Hood shot 47.4 percent overall and from three-point range while scoring 25 points off 23 Mount turnovers.
Mount St. Mary's opens the 2017-18 regular season at Marquette on Friday, November 10. Tip-off is set for 9:00 p.m. ET and the game will air live on Fox Sports Wisconsin.
