Mount St. Mary's Downed by Villanova

Villanova, Pa. (November 13, 2013)—Mount St. Mary's lost at Villanova, 90-59, on Wednesday night.  Senior Julian Norfleet paced the Mountaineers (0-2) with 15 points.

The Mount took an early 8-7 lead after Norfleet converted a traditional three-point play with 15:41 left in the opening half.  The Wildcats responded with a 16-0 run to take a 15-point advantage midway through the half to take control of the game.  Villanova was able to push the lead to a 46-25 advantage at the half.

Mount St. Mary's struggled from the field, hitting just 34 percent (10-of-29) overall and 25 percent (3-of-12) from three-point range in the opening half.  The Mount also had 11 first half turnovers that led to 16 Villanova points while Villanova shot 59 percent from the field.

Villanova (2-0) shot 63 percent from the field in the game to earn the victory.  JayVaughn Pinkston led the Wildcats with 21 points while Darrun Hilliard added 18.

The Mountaineers shot just 30 percent (17-of-57) overall while hitting 8-of-27 (30 percent)from three-point range.

Sam Prescott added 13 points and Rashad Whack 10 for the Mount in the game.  Taylor Danaher chipped in eight points on 3-of-4 shooting.

The Mount travels to Brigham Young on Friday for the first-ever meeting between the two teams.  Tip-off is slated for 9:00 p.m. (ET).

Game Notes:  The Mount is now 1-10 all-time against Villanova…This was the first meeting between the two schools since a 71-68 Villanova win on Nov. 27, 1998.
