Hackensack, N.J. (March 2, 2013)--Mount St. Mary's rolled to a 103-82 win at Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday afternoon. The Mount will be the No. 5 seed in the Northeast Conference Tournament which begins on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will play at fourth-seeded Bryant on Wednesday, March 6, in the NEC Tournament quarterfinals.
Freshman Shivaughn Wiggins paced the Mountaineers with a career-high 28 points while fellow freshman Gregory Graves had career highs of 10 points and nine rebounds in the victory. The Mount had six players in double figures in the game, with Sam Prescott adding 17, Julian Norfleet 15, Rashad Whack 13 and Kelvin Parker 10. It is the first time since Feb. 17, 2000, that the Mountaineers have had six players reach double figures.
Norfleet became the 44th player in Mount history to reach 1,000 career points with his 15-point effort. The junior guard now has 1,007 points for the Mountaineers. It is also the first time that the Mount scored 100 points for the first time since a 103-86 win over LIU Brooklyn on Jan. 14, 1995.
The Mount (16-13, 11-7 NEC) has won seven games in a row, and has clinched a winning season for the first time since 2009-10.
The Mountaineers closed the first half with a 19-10 run to take a 50-40 lead at the half. Sam Prescott hit a three-pointer to start the run, that included a pair of Norfleet three-pointers and a Graves traditional three-point play.
Wiggins was 7-for-9 from the field and 13-of-15 at the charity stripe en route to his 28-point effort. It is his fourth 20-point game of the season. Prescott had a solid all-around game with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Melquan Bolding led FDU (7-24, 2-16 NEC) with 19 points with Xavier Harris chipping in 15 in the loss.
The Mount was 13-of-37 from three-point range in the game, and 26-of-32 from the free throw line.
