Emmitsburg, Md. (February 16, 2013)--Rashad Whack scored 22 points while Julian Norfleet added 21 to pace Mount St. Mary's past Central Connecticut State, 89-80, on Saturday at Knott Arena. The win extended the Mountaineers win streak to three games.
Trailing 44-43 a minute into the second half, the Mount (12-13, 7-7 NEC) rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 54-44 advantage. Raven Barber started the spurt with a lay-up, before Sam Prescott converted back-to-back buckets. Whack capped the run with a three-pointer and jumper.
Central Connecticut State (10-14, 6-7 NEC) cut the deficit to 56-52, but Shivaugn Wiggins scored in the lane and Prescott nailed a three-pointer to half the rally. The Mount then sealed the win with an 8-0 run that pushed the advantage to 77-61 with 5:08 left in the game.
It was a balanced scoring attack for Mount St. Mary's as five players reached double figures, led by Whack's 22 points, five rebounds and three steals. It was Whack's third 20-point game of the year. Norfleet stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists, giving the Mount a pair of 20-point scorers in the same game for the second time this season.
Prescott, who scored 44 points in the Mount's win over NEC leader Bryant on Thursday, finished with 18 points and six rebounds in the win. Freshman Shivaughn Wiggins chipped in 12 points and five assists while Kelvin Parker added 10 points off the bench.
Kyle Vinales paced Central Connecticut State with 24 points with Brandon Peel adding 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Mountaineers have won five of their past six games, averaging 79.2 points per game over that stretch. The Mount also improved to 8-2 at home with the victory.
