Sam Prescott's Record Day Leads Mount St. Mary's Past Bryant, 84-70
Emmitsburg, Md. (February 14, 2013)--Sam Prescott's career-high 44 points led Mount St. Mary's to an 84-70 win over Northeast Conference leader Bryant on Thursday night at Knott Arena. The 44 points are the most by a Mount player since the school moved to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.
Prescott becomes just the fourth player in school history (104 seasons) to score 44 or more points in a game, joining Jack Sullivan (7 times), Dave Maloney and Mike Tate. The last Mountaineer to reach 44 points was Tate against Kutztown State on Nov. 24, 1987.
Chris McGuthrie held the previous Mount record for points in a game at the NCAA Division I level. McGuthrie scored 41 points in an 80-69 win over Robert Morris on Feb. 19, 1996
Prescott was 10-of-14 from three-point range in the victory, tying the school record for three-pointers made. Scott Murphy made 10 three-pointers in both 1989 (vs. Wright State) and 1991 (vs. Wagner).
Prescott scored eight points during a 16-to-5 run that gave the Mount a 31-21 advantage with 8:19 left in the first half. After Bryant cut the deficit to 31-26, Prescott tallied 10 of the Mount's final 11 points of the half to for a 42-28 lead at the break.
In the opening half, Prescott scored 28 points on 11-for-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from three-point range.
The Bulldogs (16-7, 9-3 NEC) whittled the Mountaineer advantage to 54-47 on a Corey Maynard bucket, but Prescott answered with a three-pointer to put the Mount lead back in double digits. Later in the half, Kelvin Parker's three-pointer with 5:17 remaining gave the Mount its biggest lead of the game, 79-58.
Prescott was 16-of-24 from the field, 10-of-14 from three-point range and 2-of-2 at the line for his 44 points. He added six rebounds and a pair of assists in 33 minutes in the game. Parker added 19 points and six rebounds for the Mount, hitting 5-of-7 from three-point range.
Point guard Julian Norfleet dished out a career-high 11 assists for the Mount, which had 22 assists and just six turnovers in the game.
Mount St. Mary's (11-13, 6-7 NEC) was 17-of-33 from three-point range in the victory, setting a school record for three-pointers made in a game. The previous recored was 16 set at Wright State on Jan. 31, 1989.
Alex Francis led Bryant with 25 points and 10 boards while Joe O'Shea added 13 points and four rebounds off the bench.

Game Notes: Prescott also set a record for most points by a Mount player at Knott Arena (44)...The arena opened in 1987 and the arena mark of 45 was set Marist's Izett Buchanan in 1992...Prescott's 44-point effort is also the most points by a Northeast Conference player since LIU's Antawn Dobie scored a conference record 53 against St. Francis Brooklyn on Feb. 22, 2003...His 10 three-pointers are tied for the second-most in an NEC game behind Joey Mundweiler's 11 three pointers for Wagner aganist Monmouth on Feb. 28, 2009.
