Wagner's Kenneth Ortiz, however, stepped in front of a pass, raced down court, and converted the go-ahead lay-up to give his team a 52-50 lead with 27.4 seconds remaining.

Whack missed a three-pointer on the Mount's next possession, and Ortiz was fouled with 12.3 second on the clock.  Ortiz, however, missed the front end of a one-and-one, giving the Mount another chance.  After a scramble on a loose ball, the Mount had an inbounds pass from near midcourt with 3.3 on the clock.
