Bloomington, Ind. (December 19, 2012)—No. 6 Indiana defeated Mount St. Mary's, 93-54, on Wednesday night at Assembly Hall. Rashad Whack led the Mountaineers with 17 points in the game.
The Hoosiers used a 38-to-7 run that closed the first half and opened the second half to earn the victory.
The Mountaineers (4-5) forced Indiana into 19 turnovers in the game, but the Hoosiers shot 71.4 percent from the field, including 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from three-point range.
After falling behind 9-2 in the opening minutes, the Mount went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 11-10. Mount St. Mary's continued to hang tough, cutting Indiana's lead to 18-17 on a Xavier Owens three-pointer.
The Hoosiers (9-1) answered with a 8-0 run, but three-pointers from Whack and Josh Castellanos cut the deficit to 30-26 with 5:39 left in the half.
Indiana, however, ended the half on a 16-to-3 run to take a 46-29 lead at the half. Indiana shot 72.0 percent in the opening half while the Mount shot 36.4 percent. Whack paced the Mount with nine first-half points with Prescott chipping in eight.
Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Saturday, December 22, with a 2:00 p.m. game at Western Michigan.
Game Notes: The Mount is now 1-20 all-time against ranked opponents and 0-13 against Big 10 teams…This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
