EMMITSBURG, Md. – Former Mount St. Mary's men's basketball standout Mychal Kearse is a member of the United States Select team set to compete in the William Jones Cup.
The United States will have a team in the Jones Cup for the first time since 2004 and will travel to the TPEC Gym in Tienmu, Taipei from Aug. 18-26. The United States will compete against national teams from Japan, Philippines, Qatar, Lebanon, South Korea, Iran, UAE and Taiwan. The games will be broadcasted on ESPN.
Members of the USA Select Team will assemble in Atlanta, Ga., and conduct a training session Aug. 5. All practices will take place at Morris Brown University.
Since leaving the Mount, Kearse has played professionally overseas for CSU Sibiu in Romania, Kahraba in Lebanon and played for Akita NH in Japan during the 2012 season. He has also played for the Dallas Stars, Metro Atlanta and GIE Morrow D in the USA UBA.
Kearse played at the Mount from 2004-07 and was the first player in program history to pace the team in rebounding all four seasons. Kearse, who ranks 35th in program history with 1,060 career points, was selected as the Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Year in 2005-06 and 2006-07. The Mount advanced to the NEC Tournament in three of his four seasons, including the NEC Semifinals in his senior campaign.
