EMMITSBURG, Md. - Mount St. Mary's University placed Head Men's Basketball Coach Robert Burke on paid administrative leave Wednesday, and appointed Assistant Coach Matt Henry as acting head coach.
Burke requested the leave following conversations with University officials on Tuesday.
"Decisions like these are never easy, and certainly more difficult while our season is in progress," said Director of Athletics Lynne Robinson. "We wish Coach Burke well and we are hopeful he is able to resolve these matters quickly."
Burke was appointed as head coach at the Mount in May of 2010, and amassed a 17-40 record overall. The Mountaineers are currently 6-19 this season, 4-10 in the Northeast Conference, and in ninth place in the 12-team conference standings.
Henry is in his second year as an assistant coach after spending the previous six seasons as a member of the coaching staff at Georgetown University.
"Matt knows our players and the Mount, and he has our full support," Robinson said.
