Emmitsburg, Md. (February 8, 2012)--Mount St. Mary's lost to Wagner, 59-44, at Knott Arena on Wednesday night in the front end of a home-and-home series as part of the Northeast Conference's Rivalry Week. Julian Norfleet led the Mount with 18 points and seven rebounds in the game.
Trailing 30-19 at the half, the Mount cut the deficit to 36-29 on a pair of Norfleet free throws. Wagner scored the next five points, but Norfleet nailed a three-pointer to cut the gap to 41-32 with 9:33 left in the game.
The Mount (6-18, 4-9 NEC) then had three chances to cut into the deficit, but missed three pointers on each occasion. The Seahawks then rattled off an 11-0 run to take a 52-32 lead and seal the victory.
Norfleet hit 6-of-14 from the field and was 4-for-10 from three-point range for his 18-point night. He has scored in double figures in 13 of the Mount's past 14 contests. Freshman Kelvin Parker, the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, added 11 points and four rebounds in the game while Kristijan Krajina recorded nine points and six boards.
Jonathon Williams and Tyler Murray each scored 14 points to lead Wagner in the win. The Seahawks forced 21 turnovers while holding the Mount to 32.7 percent shooting in the game.
The teams will face each other on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Wagner's Spiro Sports Center in the back end of the two-game series.
Game Notes: Wagner holds a 28-17 lead in the all-time series...Parker is averaging 15.0 points over the past five games...The 44 points were the fewest by the Mount in a Northeast Conference game since a 61-42 loss to Wagner on Feb. 10, 2005.
