Men's Basketball Welcomes Bryant on Saturday Afternoon

Mount St. Mary's has a quick turnaround when it welcomes Bryant to Knott Arena for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off on Saturday.  The Mount is coming off a 71-66 loss to NEC Co-Leader Central Connecticut State on Thursday night.

The Mountaineers used a 7-0 run midway through the first half to take a 19-13 lead and held a 30-26 edge with just under three minutes left in the half.  CCSU, however, ended the half with a 10-0 run to take a 30-26 advantage.

The Blue Devils extended the lead to 15 points (54-39) before the Mountaineers countered with a 20-5 run to even the score with 7:07 remaining.  Raven Barber and Julian Norfleet keyed the run with seven points each.

CCSU recovered to take a 69-63 lead, but Josh Castellanos drilled a three-pointer with 2:00 left to cut the deficit to three.  The Mount defense made three stops in the final minutes, but could not convert on the offensive end, and CCSU came away with the win

Kristijan Krajina led the Mount with a career high 16 points while Norfleet added 13 points and a game-high seven assists.  Castellanos chipped in 11 points while Danny Thompson added 10 points and nine rebounds.  The Mount made 10 of its first 11 shots in the second half and finished the game shooting 49.1 percent from the field.

Bryant fell at Wagner, 78-61, on Thursday night to fall to 2-14 overall and 1-4 in the NEC.  Alex Francis led the Bulldogs with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Ben Altit added 14 points and three blocks in the game.  Bryant trailed 44-27 at the half and shot 37.7 percent overall in the contest.  Francis leads Bryant in scoring (16.4) and rebounding (7.5) while Corey Maynard is averaging 13.0 points per game.  Frankie Dobbs chips in 11.7 points while dishing out a team-high 77 assists on the year.  Bryant is averaging 61.4 points per game while allowing 76.9 per contest.

Mount St. Mary's now hits the road for a four-game road swing beginning at LIU Brooklyn on Thursday, January 19.  The Mount will travel to St. Francis (N.Y.) (Jan. 21), Quinnipiac (Jan. 26) and Sacred Heart (Jan. 28) before returning to Knott Arena to play Saint Francis (Pa.) on Feb. 2.
