November 3, 2010--The Mount St. Mary's men's basketball team has been picked to finish fifth in the annual Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Coaches Poll.
Quinnipiac has been tabbed as the NEC Preseason favorite, followed by Robert Morris, Long Island, Central Connecticut State and Mount St. Mary's.
The Mount went 16-15 overall last season, finishing in third place in the NEC with a 12-6 league record. Mount St. Mary's lost to eventual champion Robert Morris in the NEC Tournament semifinals. The Mount has advanced to the semifinals in each of the past four seasons.
Senior Shawn Atupem (Newport News, Va./Woodside) is the Mount's top returnee. The 6-7 forward averaged 10.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season.
The Mount, under new head coach Robert Burke, will open the 2010-11 season at Dayton on Saturday, November 13, at 2:00 p.m.
