EMMITSBURG, Md. - The Mount St. Mary's men's basketball team completed summer school on Thursday. Along with concentrating on academics, the team was able to get more familiar with first-year head coach Robert Burke and his coaching staff.
"As a team, we were really excited to go through the summer school session and get acquainted with the new coaching staff," said senior forward Shawn Atupem. "Summer school was big for us with the coaching change because we were able to get to know the coaching staff as people. We have a good group of coaches that will better us on and off the court. We are very excited to continue to work with them into the school year and having a successful season."
Classes start for the fall semester on Aug. 25 and the men's basketball team will start practice for the 2010-11 campaign in mid-October.
Atupem is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 10.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Fellow senior Jean Cajou ranked fourth on the squad with 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. The Mountaineers finished 16-15 overall last season and 12-6 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. The Mount's season ended with a loss to Robert Morris in the NEC Semifinals.
