Tallahassee, Fla. (May 11, 2018) - The #13 Florida State Seminoles shut out Mount St. Mary's 22-0 on Sunday afternoon in the series finale. With the win, the Seminoles finished off the clean sweep over the Mountaineers. The Mount's only three hits of the game came off the bats of Vaughn Parker II, Pat Daly, and Thomas Savastio with three straight singles in the top of the fifth inning.
Florida State jumped out to an early 13-0 lead after they scored four runs in the bottom of the first and nine more runs in the bottom of the third. The Seminoles added nine more runs throughout the game as they ran away with the 22-0 win. The Florida State offense was led by Kyle Cavanaugh, Drew Mendoza, Jackson Lueck, and Steven Wells. All four of them hit a homerun while they combined for 13 RBI. Cavanaugh and Mendoza combined to hit 9 for 11 with 10 RBI, two homeruns, and a double in the win.
Five Seminoles, Cole Sands, Will Zirzow, Shane Drohan, Tyler Ahearn, and Cobi Johnson, combined to throw a three hit shutout and struck out six batters.
Noah Smith (1-1) received the loss for Mount St. Mary's and Cole Sands (7-2) picked up the win for Florida State. With the win, the Seminoles move to 37-16 this season and the Mountaineers move to 20-29 this season with the loss.
The Mount finishes up the regular season at home with a three game series against Bryant. The first game of the series is on Thursday, May 17th at 3:00 PM and finish the series up with Senior Day on Saturday, May 19th at 1:00 PM.
