14 Runs Helps Mount St. Mary's Baseball Top Fairleigh Dickinson On Sunday

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 22, 2018) - 14 runs helped the Mount St. Mary's baseball team top Fairleigh Dickinson 14-1 in the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon. Alex Kriss, Vaughn Parker II, Thomas Savastio, and Brendan Dabagian each recorded multi-hit games for the Mount in the win. Kriss and Parker led the Mountaineer offense with a combined 4 for 8 day with six runs batted in. Freshman, Jordan Geber started the game for the Mount and pitched six innings while only giving one run on just two hits. Geber also struck out seven batters as well to move his season strike outs to 28. Another freshman, Andrew Dameron pitched three shut out innings while also only allowing two hits for Mount St. Mary's. 

The Mountaineers plated the first six runs of the game, with three runs in each of the third and sixth innings to break out to a 6-0 lead. Vaughn Parker got the Mount on the board in the bottom of the third with a RBI single up the middle that brought Alex Kriss home to cross the plate. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Pat Daly worked a walk that let Parker walk home. The next batter, Zack Costello put down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt that plated Randall Minogue for the third run of the inning. 

In the sixth inning with the bases loaded again, Patrick Causa brought Brendan Dabagian in to score after working a walk for the first run of the inning. Vaughn Parker plated two more runs in the next at bat off of a two RBI single up the middle that brought home Jared Urban and Alex Kriss

Fairleigh Dickinson loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but could only muster up one run to make it a 6-1 game. Matt Armendinger grounded out to the second baseman that plated Joe O'Rourke for the Knights lone run of the game.

The Mount responded by erupting for an eight run bottom of the eighth to close out the ballgame. With the bases loaded and no outs, Thomas Savastio to right center that plated Patrick Causa for the first run of the inning. Two batters later, Matthew Kephart hit a sacrifice fly out to right field that brought Andrew Revels home to score. The next batter, Brendan Dabagian, hit a RBI single through the right side of the infield that scored Mitch Sgrignoli. A.J. Narcise hit a pinch hit single to left field that plated Savastio with two outs. With Dabagian and Narcise on base, Alex Kriss crushed a three run homerun over the left field fence and the next batter, Patrick Causa made it back to back homeruns when he hit a solo shot to left center field. Andrew Dameron shut Fairleigh Dickinson down in the ninth to secure the win for the Mountaineers.

Jordan Geber (2-1) picked up another win on the season for the Mount and Joe Flack (1-4) received the loss for the Knights. With the win, Mount St. Mary's jumps to 13-23 on the year with a Northeast Conference (NEC) mark of 7-10 and Fairleigh Dickinson drops to 9-24 on the season with a 1-13 mark in NEC play.

The Mount travels to George Mason for a mid-week game on Wednesday, April 25 at 3 PM.
