Baltimore, Md. (March 10, 2018) - The Mount St. Mary's baseball team was held hitless in the 11-0 loss against Hofstra on Saturday. Noah Smith pitched one inning, gave up one hit, and struck out one batter in relief for the Mount.
Hofstra plated the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI double down the left field line from Reisner that plated Chillis. After two scoreless innings, the Pride erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fifth. Friscia brought the first two runs home with a two RBI single to left field. Chillis opened the game up with a three-run homerun to center field after Friscia's single. Weissheier capped of the six run inning with a solo homerun down the left field line.
Hofstra added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make it an 11-0 game. The Pride's starting pitcher, Rooney, and relief pitcher, Brazill, combined for a no-hitter on the day while striking out 10 Mountaineers. Hofstra moves to 6-2 and the Mount drops to 3-7 on the early year.
Michael Collins (1-2) picked up the loss for Mount St. Mary's and Ronney (2-0) recorded the win for the Pride. Rooney pitched 6.0 innings, gave up no hits, no runs, and struck out eight batter on the day.
The Mount is back in action at Penn State for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, March 14 at 5:00 PM.
