Mount St. Mary's Baseball Downed by Central Connecticut State In Series Opener on Thursday

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 13, 2017) - Tyler Post recorded another multi-hit game this season while Vaughn Parker II hit a home run but Mount St. Mary's was downed 7-2 by Central Connecticut on Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Devils jumped out to take the early lead scoring in the top of the first two innings. TT Bowens singled to right center field that plated Dean Lockery in the top of the first for first run of the game. In the top of the second inning, Nick Landell lined out to leftfield that brought Buddy DeWaine in to score.

CCSU added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning and two more in the top half of the sixth inning to make a 7-0 game. Ryan Costello hit a two RBI double down the rightfield line in the fifth.

Parker led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a solo homerun to leftfield for the Mountaineer's first run. Later that inning, Tanner Sampson grounded out to the first baseman that brought home Sean Kelly to cross the plate.

Dennis Stewart pitched three shutout innings of work for Mount St. Mary's in relief while striking out two batters.

Jordan Lawson (0-5) picked up the loss for the Mount while Brendan Smith (3-4) picked up the win for the Blue Devils.

These two teams will play the second game of the series tomorrow, April 14 at 1 pm.
