Mount St. Mary's Baseball Downed by Central Connecticut State In Series Opener

New Britain, Conn. (March 17, 2017) - Sean Kelly, Jared Urban, and Vaughn Parker II all picked up multi-hit ball games but Mount St. Mary's was downed by Central Connecticut State 9-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Blue Devils jumped out to the early lead in the bottom of the first scoring three runs on three hits. Ryan Costello hit a two RBI single through the right side of the infield that plated Tyler Coleman and Franklin Jennings. Later in the inning, Dylan Maher grounded out to the second baseman that scored Dean Lockery to take a 3-0 lead after one inning.

The Mount tacked on their one run of the game in the top of the second inning on a RBI double from Kelly that drove in Tyler Post making it a 3-1 game. That would be all of the offense for the Mountaineers in the game as Central Connecticut proved to be too much to handle. The Blue Devils scored six unanswered runs to pull away from the Mount. Picked up one run in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings while they added three more in the eighth. CCSU was led by Costello who finished two-for-four with three RBI's.

Michael Collins picked up the loss for Mount St. Mary's pitching 5.1 innings allowing four earned runs while Brendan Smith picked up the win for Central Conecticut State pitching 9 innings allowing just one run.

These two teams are scheduled to play the second game of the series tomorrow, March 18 at 1:00 pm
