Mount St. Mary's Baseball Falls to Michigan, 8-7

Port Charlotte, Fla. (March 1, 2013) -- Mount St. Mary's dropped an 8-7 decision to Michigan in back-and-forth non-conference action at North Charlotte Regional Park. Andrew Clow scored three runs and put together a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, while leadoff hitter Nick Walker was 1-for-3 with three RBIs in the defeat.

The Mount (3-6) held a 7-6 lead in the eighth but two Michigan (3-4) runs in the bottom of the inning was enough for the Wolverines to pick up the victory.

Michigan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first before the Mount responded in the top of the second with two runs of their own. Walker was walked with the bases loaded for the first run and the Mount added another on a Michigan throwing error.

Following three more runs by Michigan in the bottom of the third, the Mount strung together four singles to go with two walks in the top of the fourth to score four runs in the frame and take a 6-5 lead.

The Wolverines again tied the game at 6-6 on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. The Mount loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth on a Clow single followed by back-to-back walks by Zane Bard and Brandon Scott. Walker's sac fly to left plated Clow for the go-ahead run.

Michigan's two runs in the bottom of the eighth sent the Mount to the 8-7 loss.

Connor Graber pitched four innings, allowing six runs on six hits before giving way to Scott Nickerson, who went the final four innings while giving up two runs on six hits.

Tomorrow, the Mount will take on Air Force at 3:00 p.m. to conclude action in Florida.
