Mountaineers Fall to Towson, 10-5
Towson, Md. (April 17, 2012)— Towson defeated Mount St. Mary's, 10-5, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Schuerholz Park. Brandon Scott went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the loss.
The Tigers (19-18) broke on top with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Peter Bowles walked to open the inning and moved to second on a one-out Richie Blosser base hit. After a balk moved the runners up, Bowles came home to score on a Brandon Gonnella sacrifice fly. Mike Draper then singled up the middle to make it 2-0.
The Mount (12-28) cut into the deficit when Scott singled, moved to third on an error, and scored on a Mark Quaranta sacrifice fly.
Bowles hit a solo home run and Towson scored a run on a double steal in the bottom of the sixth to push the margin to 4-1.
Andrew Parker broke the game open in the seventh with a grand slam to give Towson an 8-1 lead.
Quaranta had a bases loaded walk in the eighth, but Towson countered with RBI singles from Bowles and Zach Fisher in the bottom of the inning to make it 10-2.
Scott rounded out the scoring with a three-run homer in the ninth for the Mount.
Scott finished the game 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the Mount offense. Quaranta went 1-for-2 with two RBI as well.
On the mound, Mount starter Chris Campbell allowed four runs in six innings, striking out four, but walking six in the game.
Towson starter Kyle Paul held the Mount in check through the first seven innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run.
The Mount returns to action on Friday, April 20, with a 3:00 p.m. game at Monmouth. It is the first of a four-game Northeast Conference series.
