Ryan Owens Named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week

Mount St. Mary's freshman Ryan Owens (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) has been named the Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week.  Owens had a pair of multiple-hit games against CAA foes last week.

Owens went 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI single in the Mount's 9-6 extra-inning victory over CAA preseason favorite James Madison last Wednesday.  Owens had an RBI single in the Mount's five-run sixth inning of the game.  He singled in the top of the 11th and scored the eventual game-winning run as well.  The previous day against George Mason in the home opener, Owens went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Owens hit .444 (4-for-9) with three runs scored and an RBI over the two games for the Mount last week.

He is the first Mountaineer to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors since Brady Feigl on April 6, 2009.  The Mount has now had 11 players all-time earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors since joining the league in 1989-90.
