Mount Baseball Loses at Bryant, 5-2, on Sunday
Smithfield, R.I. (April 17, 2011)-Bryant defeated Mount St. Mary's, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon to complete a four-game sweep of the Northeast Conference series. The Mount, which has lost seven in a row, falls to 12-20 overall and 6-14 in the NEC.
The game started off well for the Mount as leadoff hitter Tommy Flynn drove the ball over the right field fence to give the Mount a 1-0 advantage.
Bryant evened the score in the bottom of the inning on a wild pitch and took the lead on Colin Shepard's two-run single in the third. Mike DelPonte hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Bulldogs (17-16, 9-7 NEC)
The Mount's final run of the game came on a Michael Foster RBI double in the top of the sixth.
Starting pitcher Dan Horner allowed five runs in five innings to take the loss. Karl Lamont did not allow a hit in three scoreless innings of relief.
Mount St. Mary's hosts Towson at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, at Straw Family Stadium on campus.
Notes: The Mount is now 2-6 all-time against Bryant...The Mountaineers hit .175 in the four game series while scoring just six runs.
