EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 16, 2022) – Fans who came to see Mount St. Mary's baseball battle Fairleigh Dickinson saw a home run derby break out. Nine balls from eight different players sailed over the fence as the Knights overtook the Mountaineers by a 20-10 final.
FDU won the home run battle with six bombs against the Mount's three.
Aiden Tierney,
Shane Wockley and
Brady Drawbaugh all went yard for Mount St. Mary's.
Hunter D'Amato ignited the distance derby in the first inning with a two-run shot off Mount starter
Cooper Adams. FDU had four homers by the third, building an 11-0 advantage. Blasts by Wockley and Tierney signaled the Mount's resilience as the home side posted three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
A three-run shot from Brelon Harden in the fourth received a response from Drawbaugh with a solo fly in the fifth. Using more conventional tactics, the Mount scored six more times in the eighth, capped by a bases clearing double from
Ryan Fisher.
Harden became the shining star of FDU's offense with a triple later in the game, marking a cycle for the Knights infielder. In total, Harden with 4-for-6, scoring four times and driving in four.
Despite the slugfest, Mount St. Mary's relievers
Max Moore and
Brett Midkiff delivered scoreless innings of work.
Looking to put this series behind them, the Mount hits the road for a single game against Penn State Wednesday (Apr. 20) and a three-game series with Central Connecticut (Apr. 22-24).
