2016 NORTHEAST CONFERENCE OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Mount St. Mary's University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams are headed to the 2016 Northeast Conference Championships this weekend. The meet will be hosted by Central Connecticut State on May 7 and 8.
Last season, both the men's and women's team finished in third place at the NEC Championships which were held at the Mount's Morgan Track.
NEC Weekly Honors: The Mount outdoor track and field teams had seven different athletes win Northeast Conference Weekly honors during the regular season. Julian Woods won men's track athlete of the week (Apr. 12), Chase Boyle (Apr. 26) and D.J. Workcuff (Apr. 19) men's field athlete of the week, and Brian Sagendorf won the men's rookie of the week three times (May 3, Apr. 26, Apr. 5). For the women, Kelly Yanucil won field athlete of the week twice (Apr. 12, Mar. 29) with Isabel Ross (May 3) and Kirsten O'Malley (Apr. 12) each taking home on rookie of the week award.
School Records: The Mount set a pair of school records during the outdoor season. Chase Boyle's mark of 55.81m in the hammer throw at the Bucknell Team Challenge set a new Mount standard, while Brian Sagendorf's toss of 65.65m in the javelin at the Penn Relays also set a school mark.
ECAC/IC4A Championships: The Mountaineers have had 10 athletes and one relay team so far qualify for this year's ECAC/IC4A Championships. On the women's side, Kelly Yanucil (javelin), Natalia Hinton (long jump) and Helena Leyrer (100m hurdles) and the 4x400m relay team have qualified for the ECAC's. For the men, Chase Boyle (hammer throw), Brenden Chavis (hammer throw), Christopher Gabor (decathlon), Josh Poole (200m, 400m), Brian Sagendorf (javelin), Julian Woods (110m hurdles, 400m hurdles) and D.J. Workcuff (100m, 200m, long jump) have all qualifed for the IC4A's.
Yanucil's Strong Season: Kelly Yanucil has had a tremendous season so far this spring. The junior's mark of 50.47m at the George Mason Spring Invitational places her 11th on the NCAA East Preliminary qualifying list, and 24th overall in the country. Yanucil became the first Mount woman to win a Championship division at the Penn Relays with a throw of 50.11m in the javelin.
NCAA East Preliminary: The Mount has three athletes in the top 48 on the NCAA East Preliminary qualifying lists. The top 48 in each event qualify for this year's NCAA East preliminary round. Kelly Yanucil is 11th in the East in the javelin (50.47m), Julian Woods is 28th in the East in the 400m hurdles (52.09) and Brian Sagendorf is 34th in the East in the javelin (65.65m).
