Emily Grugan Wins Flight D Singles Title at Bucknell Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. (September 20, 2009)--

Senior Emily Grugan won the Flight 'D' Championship to pace the Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team at the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Grugan downed Wesleigh Dinadio of Villanova, 6-4, 3-6 (10-6) in the semifinals before earning a 6-2, 6-2 win over Bucknell's Liz Larkin in the championship match.

In the Flight 'D' consolations, Emma Haley downed Loyola's Liz Bergeron, 6-4, 6-1 before falling to Bucknell's Kirstyn Sotak, 6-0, 6-2.

Chelsea Johnson fell to Duquesne's Zina Williams, 5-7, 6-2 (10-6) in the Flight 'A' Quarterfinals. Johnson then downed Villanova's Courtney Reed, 6-2, 0-6 (10-5) in a consolation match. On Sunday, Johnson had a 6-4, 6-1 win over Loyola's Rachel Janasek in the consolation round.

In the Flight 'B' Quarterfinals, Kara Caufield fell to Sam Noble of Duquesne, 6-1, 6-3. Caufield then defeated Courtney Casey of Bucknell, 6-0, 6-1 in a consolation match. In the consolation round, Carly Landini downed Lauren Rothkamp of Bucknell, 6-3, 6-4, before dropping a 6-2, 6-1 match to Judy Lite of Loyola.

In the Flight 'C' consolations, Renee Deane downed Liz Black of Loyola, 2-6, 6-0 (11-9) while Kelly Conroy downed Duquesne's Steph Novakowski, 6-1, 6-1.

In Flight 'A' Singles consolation matches, Emily Bolchoz lost to Demi Iepuras, 6-4, 6-2. On Sunday, Bolchoz rebounded to earn a 6-4, 6-7 (10-7) victory over Duquesne's Rachel McGowan in a consolation match.

In doubles action, Bolchoz and Deane downed Hoy and Lite from Loyola, 8-6, before earning an 8-1 win over a pair from Villanova On Sunday, Bolchoz and Deane downed Villanova's Erskine and Solberg, 8-5, in the consolation final.

In Flight 'B' doubles, Grugan and Haley had a perfect day, winning matches over a pair from Duquesne and from Bucknell. Landini and Conroy lost their doubles match in the consolations. The duo, however, fell to Duquesne's Conroy and O'Sullivan, in the championship match.

The Mount hosts Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
