Dr. Virginia McGovern, an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, was appointed as the Faculty Athletic Representative for the Mount in August, 2010. McGovern begins her second year as the Mount's FAR in 2011-12.

A Texas native, McGovern joined the Mount faculty in 2005.  She teaches in the area of criminology, organized crime, white collar crime, drugs and crime, and sociology of sport.  Her research interests include sentencing and recidivism, white collar crime, statistics, elderly offending, and sport sociology.  As FAR, she will chair the Athletics Advisory Board, which includes representatives from the faculty, students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni, and local community.

McGovern is a 1999 graduate of Luther College, where she was a two-sport athlete.  She received her MA and Ph.D. in criminology and social psychology from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio.  She holds membership in the American Society of Criminologists and the Eastern Sociological Society.
