Monocacy Health Partners Orthopaedic Specialists of Frederick and
Mount St. Mary's University Now Offer Personalized Care for Athletes

MHP Orthopaedic Specialists and MSMU team up to keep athletes healthy, safe, and in the game.

Frederick, Md. (Nov. 6, 2017) — Monocacy Health Partners (MHP) Orthopaedic Specialists of Frederick, a premier practice specializing in sports medicine, fracture care, and treating orthopaedic conditions, has joined forces with Mount St. Mary's University (MSMU) to promote the health and safety of MSMU Division I student athletes. Together, they're providing expedited, compassionate, and high-quality care before, during, and after MSMU sporting events and practices.

"As we continue to improve our student-athlete experience at Mount St Mary's, we are always looking to evolve our operations," said Lynne Robinson, Mount St. Mary's Director of Athletics. "Partnering with Monocacy Health Partners (MHP) Orthopaedic Specialists of Frederick is very exciting and it allows our student-athletes greater health care options.  Our Office of Sports Medicine will be working alongside Dr. Sodhi and Dr. Matthews to provide the greatest possible care to our student-athletes and allow them access to the state of art facilities in the Monocacy Health Partners (MHP) Orthopaedic Specialists of Frederick."

In the past 10 years, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) reported a major increase of injured athletes across all divisions of college athletics, with injury rates two to three times higher during preseason practices than during the regular season. College and even high school sports are becoming a year-round commitment, which means student athletes are at a greater risk for injury.

MHP Orthopaedic Specialists is committed to helping MSMU student athletes to stay healthy, safe, and in the game. MHP Orthopaedic Specialists brings an unparalleled approach to sports health by providing thorough and reliable care, as well as continuity of injury care. For example, the physicians that see athletes during the game are the same physicians who will be with them during the full injury and healing process.

According to MHP Orthopaedic Specialists, student athletes can rest assured they are in good hands with the specialized team and proud partner with Frederick Memorial Hospital and Frederick Surgical Center. As part of the Frederick Regional Health System network of care, MHP Orthopaedic Specialists also streamlines communication of medical records for timely care.

"The student athletes have access to not only a highly-trained sports medicine team but the entire health system overall," says Mihir Jani, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon at MHP Orthopaedic Specialists. This includes onsite physician care once a week, immediate care as needed, plus additional services like imaging and rehabilitation.

"We're proud to be affiliated with Mount St. Mary's University," adds Dr. Jani. "I went into sports medicine partially because I enjoyed evaluating injuries, but it goes beyond that. I believe in health and fitness and keeping people active, and it's nice to work with athletes who are interested in the same."

"We are excited to partner with MHP Orthopaedic Specialists of Frederick," said Mount St. Mary's University head athletic trainer Mark Myers.  "This partnership increases our access to a team of physicians who can handle all of the health care needs of our student-athletes."
