Brett Schmidt Named Mount Athlete Of The Week

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Kelly Baker (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson), a member of the Mount St. Mary’s women's soccer team, has been named the Mount Athlete of the Week for helping the Mount defeat Towson in the season opener.

The senior posted two goals in the Mount's 4-1 dominating performance in their home opener. Baker opened up with a goal in the 18th minute after receiving a perfect pass from junior Ragan Cote.

During the second half, Baker initiated the sequence that resulted in her second goal of the game. Baker dropped a pass back to junior Jackie Corley, who then fed the ball to freshmen Nadine Goerke, ultimately finding its way back to the scoring foot of Baker in the 80th minute.

Baker's two goal performance helped alter Mount athletic history. The four goals scored in the game against Towson marked the most by a Mount team against the Tigers in the all-time series that began in 1992.

The Mount heads to Virginia Tech for its next game on Friday, August 31st, at 7 p.m.
